This is a relatively easy walk apart from a short steep climb out of a valley. Walking boots are recommended.

Route around Mynydd Cilan
  1. Head westwards from the car park in the direction of the sea, passing a white cottage on your right.
  2. Where the track forks take the left fork.
  3. Just after a small house on the left, head left along a grass track.
  4. You will soon reach the Coastal Path where the path appears to descend steeply towards the sea. Pause to admire the views over Porth Neigwl (Hell’s Mouth).
  5. Follow the Coastal Path to the left, skirting the headland and passing to the right of a fenced field.
  6. Where the track forks at a Coastal Path marker post keep right heading towards a triangulation post in distance.
  7. Ignore paths descending to the right until reaching a major fork. Take the right fork.
  8. The path bends left at a marker post and heads gently uphill, eventually reaching an iron gate and sign. Photo below.
  9. Head right here around a fenced field and through a kissing gate. Pause to take in the view over Porth Critad with St Tudwall’s lighthouse in distance.
  10. The path skirts a cliff edge and then descends into a valley. Ignore a style on the left and follow the Coastal Path posts.
  11. Descend to a gate and footbridge over a stream. Then follow the path as it zags steeply out of the valley.
  12. Near the top of the hill leave the Coastal Path and pass through a kissing gate towards Muriau.
  13. The path becomes difficult to follow through gorse bushes but occasional marker posts give the general direction.
  14. Pass through a gate to a path that passes between walls towards a farmhouse in the distance.
  15. After another gate, and before reaching the farmhouse, look for gate on the left and a path that skirts around the farmhouse.
  16. On reaching a track, which is the drive to the farmhouse, head left.
  17. Turn right at the road.
  18. After about 250m, at Erw Deg bungalow, take the lane on the left back to the car park.
